This afternoon, MVHS administration received a report that a firearm may have been inside a student’s vehicle on campus. As soon as the report was made, we immediately responded and secured the unloaded firearm without incident. At no time did the firearm enter any school building, and the situation was resolved quickly and safely. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that any harm was intended.
We are grateful to the individual who reported the concern so it could be addressed right away. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we take every report seriously.
We understand that situations like this can cause concern, and we want to reassure families that appropriate procedures were followed and the matter has been handled in accordance with school safety policies. We would like to especially thank the MVHS Principals, Officer Glenn, and Officer Masters for appropriately handling this situation and for continuing to make student safety a top priority. We will continue to work closely with families and our community to maintain a safe learning environment for everyone.

Reminder: All MVSD schools will dismiss at 1:40pm today. Afternoon buses will be at their stops 1 hour and 40 minutes earlier than usual. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be from 3-7pm tonight.

All MVSD schools will need to make up 4 school days due to the time we missed for recently winter weather. Make up Day 1 will be this Monday 2/16. Make up day 2 will be Monday 3/2. Make up Days 3 & 4 will be May 14 & 15. The last day of school will now be May 15.

MVSD will run snow bus routes again tomorrow Wednesday 2/4. We're optimistic that we will be able to return to regular routes on Thursday.

All MVSD campuses will be running snow routes again tomorrow (2/3) morning and afternoon. Hopefully weather and road conditions will allow us to return to our regular routes soon.

Ozarka has cancelled all on-site classes for tomorrow Monday February 2.

All MVSD schools will NOT be in session tomorrow Friday January 30. Refreezing conditions have prevented safe traveling conditions for buses and school employees. With maintenance on area roads and school parking lots continuing today and tomorrow, all MVSD high schools are still planning to host scheduled basketball games for Friday night. Times for basketball games and other activities may be altered. Our high schools will be pushing out updated information for Friday night's activities shortly.

All MVSD schools will be canceled Wednesday January 28 and Thursday January 29 due to hazardous road conditions. Our goal at this time is to have school Friday along with our scheduled home basketball games on all three campuses. This plan will depend on travel condition changes between now and Friday. More updates will come as we get closer to Friday. If we attend school Friday it is likely that we will utilize our bus snow routes. Updated snow route information will be communicated before we run any snow routes. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

All MVSD campuses will be closed tomorrow Monday January 26 and Tuesday January 27. We will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions throughout the week and send updates as we have them.

In anticipation of the winter weather expected in our area tomorrow, we will be releasing school at 2:00 PM. This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. If conditions begin to deteriorate earlier than forecasted, we will adjust the release time accordingly and communicate any updates immediately.

Little Stingers practice for today has been cancelled.

MVSD was informed that a former Chartwells food-service employee assigned to the Rural Special campus was recently arrested by the Stone County Sheriff's Office. This arrest involves charges that are separate from school, and are in no way related to any activity on any MVSD campus. MVSD administration and police have been in contact with local law enforcement and continue to monitor the situation. Although the individual was not an MVSD employee, we took immediate action upon the initial arrest last month, and the individual has not and will not return to any MVSD campus. Chartwell's terminated the individual's contract as upon the initial arrest last month. The individual has not returned to school since the time of arrest and will not return in the future. Chartwells requires all employees assigned to schools to pass state-required background checks, and this individual met all such requirements at the time of hiring. MVSD's priority remains the safety and well-being of our students, and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement as needed.
